For the two landfill sites near Da Nang, Khanh Son and Hoa Nhon, this study develops a waste management concept with the aim of incorporating advanced mechanical biological waste treatment technologies in order to improve the economic and ecological situation of waste disposal. The concepts are based on data collected at the two sites and these data were combined with international, regional as well as site- specific information and political guidelines of decision-makers (stakeholders). Subsequently the required technical processes are adapted to the site conditions. Finally the new plants are dimensioned and budgeted in this study. The case study describes two concepts for a Sustainable Waste Management System for the two locations Khanh So and Hoa Nhon.
The study has been undertaken as part of the project "Integrated Resource Management in Asian Cities: The Urban NEXUS". Similar studies have been published for cities in India, Indonesia and the Philippines.
