Post-doctoral Position in Water-Food-Energy Nexus

The postdoc fellow will join an interdisciplinary program in water-energy-food nexus that aims to develop innovative approaches to sustainability challenges in Texas. The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Endowed Professor in Water Security and Water-Energy-Food Nexus. The team is composed of five hydrologists. This position assists the principal investigator in ongoing academic and research programs; conduct research that addresses complex energy and water challenges for agriculture; contribute, as needed, to other projects related to watershed hydrology; extreme hydrological events (flood and drought) prediction and evaluation; impacts of land use/cover changes on hydrologic processes; and numerical modeling.

This position is funded by a grant or restricted funds. Continued employment is contingent on the renewal of grant or restricted funding.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists in writing research findings for scientific reports and peer-reviewed journal articles, researches proposals to continue and/or extend research work; and participates in extension and outreach activities as needed by the program; assists other researchers in CARC such as students, researchers, and technicians, etc.
  • Assists the principal investigator in his ongoing academic and research programs; conduct research that addresses complex energy and water challenges for agriculture.
  • Contributes to other projects related to watershed hydrology; extreme hydrological events (flood and drought) prediction and evaluation; impacts of land use/cover changes on hydrologic processes; and numerical modeling using spatial and temporal data analyses.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:

  • Ph.D. degree in Hydrology, Civil Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Computer Science, or related academic fields emphasizing water resources and environmental science, especially water management, data analytics, rising technologies, surface and subsurface hydrology, and natural resource management.
  • No prior experience required.
  • Academic preparation through formal course work and earned credits, and/or professional experience consistent with the subject areas of academic or research stated above.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Educational background in one of the following disciplines is highly desirable: hydrology/water resources systems, energy systems, agricultural/land systems, systems analysis, and/or applied economics.
  • Strong numerical/hydrologic modeling experience, including the use of different models and developing different water management tools.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who possess strong computational skills, with programming experience in R, Python, Matlab, C/C++, or similar language.
  • Must be highly motivated, have

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
