The India-UK Water Centre is inviting proposals in two areas:
  1. Proposals to convene a science workshop on one of the Centre's themes to: discuss the current state of knowledge in a particular area; identify the future requirements/ideas for joint research and/or; provide training to exchange and further develop scientific skills in water security science;
  2. Proposals to take part in researcher exchanges in order to spend time exploring new science ideas around on the Centre's themes, building capacity or training in research methods, or exchanging latest findings.
Funding and administrative support from the Centre is available to Indian and UK water scientists for these activities which will be held during the period 01 January 2017- 30 June 2017. Applicants must be members of the Open Network of India-UK Water Scientists, which is open to any Indian or UK water scientist to join. Promoting cooperation and collaboration between Indian-UK water researchers is a key ambition of the India-UK Water Centre which sees community-led ideas for workshops and exchanges as a key delivery mechanism to ensure it is supporting the needs of the community. It is intended that activities funded under this call will provide opportunities for a range of individuals and organisations to attend and partake.

Science Workshops

Funding is available to support a workshop hosted in the UK during the period Jan-June 2017. Typically 2-4 days in length, workshops will normally bring together 15-30 scientists from the UK and India. All proposals to run a workshop must include an Indian and a UK lead applicant. This call is aimed at building on NERC-MoES research and facilitating new collaborations in one of four IUKWC theme areas:
  • Building cross-sectoral collaborations to understand the dynamic interactions across the water-energy-food nexus;
  • Using new scientific knowledge to help stakeholders set objectives for freshwater management;
  • Improving freshwater monitoring frameworks and data for research and management;
  • Transforming science into catchment management solutions.
Call closes on 31 Jan 2017, more details and how to apply are available here.

Researcher Exchange Schemes

Funding is available to support Indian scientists in visits to the UK or UK scientists to visit India. Two types of exchange schemes are run by the IUKWC and applications under either scheme are invited in this call. The Senior Exchange Scheme focuses on visits by leading scientists with an emphasis on developing new ideas for future India-UK projects. The Junior Exchange Scheme focuses on early career researchers and PhD students, providing experience of working internationally, developing scientific skills and laying the seeds for future India-UK collaborations as their careers progress. Exchanges proposed in response to this call may focus any of the five IUKWC themes:
  • Developing hydro-climate services to support water security;
  • Building cross-sectoral collaborations to understand the dynamic interactions across the water-energy-food nexus;
  • Using new scientific knowledge to help stakeholders set objectives for freshwater management;
  • Improving freshwater monitoring frameworks and data for research and management;
  • Transforming science into catchment management solutions.
Call closes on 31 Jan 2017, more details and how to apply are available here.

Future Calls

It is expected calls for activities in the period 1 July 2017- 31 December 2017 will be announced in spring 2017.
