Digital Forum // European Development Days 2021
The theme of the 14th edition of the European Development Days is 'The Green Deal for a Sustainable Future'. The EDD are Europe’s leading forum on international partnerships and will take place in a digital format on June 15 and 16, 2021. The objective of the EDD is to bring the development community together each year to share ideas and experiences in ways that inspire new partnerships and innovative solutions to the world’s most pressing challenges.
Biodiversity loss, climate change and environmental degradation are defining challenges of our generation and require more coordinated and incisive international efforts. The COVID-19 pandemic has shown the interlinkages between human health and a healthy planet. The post COVID recovery should be an opportunity to build back greener and more inclusive societies and economies.
The European Development Days (EDD), organised by the European Commission, are Europe’s leading forum on development and international partnerships. Since 2006, EDD has established itself as a key fixture in the world's development calendar and is now widely considered as the 'Davos of Development'. This year, the theme of ‘The Green Deal for a Sustainable Future’ is highly relevant for the political agenda with a range of other international events taking place. In this respect, the EDD will provide a decisive moment for analysis and reflection on the road to the CBD COP15 in Kunming in October and the Glasgow COP26 in November 2021.
The European Green Deal is EU’s roadmap for a green and inclusive transition to help improve people’s well-being and secure a healthy planet for generations to come. The Green Deal goes beyond EU borders and commits the EU to engage with its partners to support the global transition, moving to a green and climate neutral economy and protecting biodiversity.
In the 14th edition of the EDD, over two days, around 70 sessions ranging from high-level panels to lab debates and workshops will raise awareness of challenges and solutions and showcase the EU and its partners’ engagement. The 17 subtopics of the year evolve around the issues ‘A Green Economy for People and Nature’ and Protecting Biodiversity and People’.
