Southern Africa
Water resources are unevenly distributed among the region, in addition, deteriorating water access and quality together with competing user groups, such as industrial, domestic and agricultural demand threaten the food security of the region. Only 5% of the rural population has access to electricity. Integrated planning of water, food and energy sectors and promoting regional cooperation has been considered as a strategy to meet water, energy and food security targets, while improving natural resource use efficiencies in the region and reducing social inequality.
Together with the partner Southern African Development Community and the implementing agency Global Water Partnership Southern Africa, the project aims at create an enabling environment that will drive cross-sectoral engagement and implementation of nexus investment projects that contribute to enhancing water, food and energy security in Southern Africa.
