Mobilisation of civil society for the restoration and realisation of a conservatory garden in Tomi/Ségou, Mali

The National Agency of the Great Green Wall of Mali (ANGMV) and the Frexus Project share the same area of intervention and lead a common fight against desertification, land degradation and climate change. To this end, ANGMV has requested funding from the Frexus project in order to strengthen its technical and financial capacities to promote itself in the regions located along the Great Green Wall and to carry out awareness-raising activities for increased mobilisation of civil society for the restoration and safeguarding of the forest.

The conservatory garden

Thanks to this support, ANGMV has created a 1 hectare conservatory garden, entirely protected from animals. The garden contains 75 endangered forest species and 3 hectares of tree plantations. Located in the school area of the village of TOMI, the conservatory garden also serves as a place of environmental education for the students. All species are labelled with their botanical taxa and vernacular names. This will enable the learners to become familiar with the forest species, facilitating their identification in the natural environment.

During the reception ceremony, the Minister of Environment, Sanitation and Sustainable Development (MEADD), Modibo Kone, insisted on the involvement of the population in the monitoring and maintenance of the facilities. He also urged all participants to widely disseminate the climate issues so that everyone can take care of their environment to ensure a better future for our children.
