About the lecture

Professor Verhoeven will discuss the hydropolitics in the Nile Basin between Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia and how the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam alters the regional political economy. Drawing on his research in all Nile Basin riparian countries, Dr. Verhoeven will offer a thought-provoking lecture on how countries can collaborate by applying the Water-Energy-Food Nexus in policy-making- and what pitfalls may be in store for those who do so based on a simplistic understanding of regional integration.

About the speaker

Dr. Harry Verhoeven is Associate Professor at the School of Foreign Service, Georgetown University Qatar, and Associate Member of the Department of Politics and International Relations, University of Oxford. He is the author of Water, Civilisation and Power in Sudan and co-author of Why Comrades Go To War: Liberation Politics and the Outbreak of Africa's Deadliest Conflict.
