Recommendations for the Bonn2011 Nexus Conference and beyond

Third meeting of the German Advisory Group on 13 September

Dbk september
For the third and last time before the Nexus Conference in November, the members of the German Advisory Group met at the Palais Schaumburg in Bonn. This time the talks focused mainly on the expected outcomes of the Conference and on further recommendations for policy and practice. The members of the organisational committee briefed the German experts from science, politics, business and civil society on the conference structure, the invitation process and the conference's "hot topics". Holger Hoff from the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research then presented the draft conference background paper, which the Stockholm Environment Institute SEI is currently developing under the guidance of Holger Hoff and Johan Kuylenstierna. The following discussions centred around the expected outcomes of the conference and the resulting policy recommendations. The envisaged objective is the preparatory measures and the conference should generate policy recommendations for the Rio+20 process, as well as concrete measures and initiatives for water, energy and food security. This means that the process goes far beyond the conference itself. The Nexus perspective should be further developed in other processes as well and thus enjoy a larger international presence. The Bonn2011 Nexus Conference is an initial, significant starting point, to which the German Advisory Group's recommendations made a key contribution.
