The discussed study by Antonio Embid and Liber Martín analyses the water, energy and food Nexus in Latin America and the Caribbean. It aims to define the Nexus — in the specific context of the region — as a new model for action that is informed by the interconnections between the different sectors. Built on a long history of integrated management approach, the main premise of the Nexus construct is that the water, energy and food sectors are increasingly interdependent, and that the impacts on one affect the rest. In a world dealing with the pressure of climate change and subject to increasing demands from a growing population, understanding and taking these interdependencies into account is vital to achieve long-term economic, environmental and social goals.
