IUCN Regional Office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia (ECARO) is seeking to recruit an experienced and enthusiastic candidate to join the IUCN ECARO team as the Nexus Central Asia Coordinator. The successful candidate will work in close cooperation with IUCN ECARO Director and the IUCN Global Water Programme, and will be responsible for the coordination and implementation of Nexus and water governance activities in Eastern Europe, North and Central Asia.
Job Description
Major Responsibilities
- Oversee the implementation of IUCN’s water governance activities in Eastern Europe, North and Central Asia
- Coordinate the implementation of IUCN’s Nexus portfolio in the region
- Liaise with IUCN Members, Commissions and partners in identifying priorities in water governance and cross-sectoral cooperation in the region
- Act as IUCN ECARO’s focal point for the IUCN Global Water Programme
- Help identify programme implementation and project development opportunities
Specific Duties
- Coordinate the project “Fostering Water, Energy and Food Security Nexus Dialogue and Multi-sector Investment in Central Asia” in partnership with the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC)
- Assist in conducting an institutional gap analysis and capacity development needs assessment for Nexus in Central Asia
- Provide technical assistance to project partners in Central Asia on identifying priority regional and national Nexus investment projects
- Provide assistance to IUCN Members and partners on priority setting and capacity development for water governance
- Support the application of IUCN water knowledge tools in the region
- Liaise with the IUCN Global Water Programme, IUCN Regional Offices, and the Commission on Ecosystem Management in providing support to the implementation of IUCN ECARO’s project portfolio
- Ensure timely and quality communication of IUCN ECARO’s water-related activities
- Assist IUCN ECARO’s Director in identifying partnership opportunities and developing water project portfolio
Salary
The gross annual salary for this position is in the range from EUR 27.580 to EUR 29.160, subject to deductions for social security contributions and health insurance, and before tax.Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in a subject related to the field of environment, energy or environmental economics
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in the fields related to water governance or resource management
- Experience in project management, with particular emphasis on EU funding mechanisms
- Good knowledge of Nexus and IUCN water knowledge tools
- Proven ability to work with multi-disciplinary groups, including governments, experts and civil society
- Capacity to work effectively under time pressure and extended hours if required and pre-approved by ECARO Director
- Willingness to travel within the region, sometimes at short notice
- Excellent command English and other languages spoken in the region
- Computer literacy in MS Office packages
- Excellent organizational and networking skills
- Team-oriented attitude and ability to work independently
