Job Vacancy // Research Associate focusing on the analysis of the Water-Energy-Food Nexus in Brazil at University of Cambridge
The Department of Land Economy invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work with Professor Jorge E. Vinuales at the Cambridge Centre for Environment, Energy and Natural Resource Governance (C-EENRG) in the context of a research project funded by the Newton Fund (ESRC) and focusing on the analysis of the Water-Energy-Food Nexus in Brazil. This is a part-time (75%), fixed term available from 1 April 2017 until 30 September 2019. Deadline 6 Nov 2016
The post holder will have responsibility for the analysis of Brazilian laws and policies relevant for the Water-Energy-Food Nexus. This is a new area of inquiry and laws are often not organised following an integrative nexus perspective. You will be required to go beyond the usual material of legal and policy research and conduct independent research, engaging with relevant stakeholders in Brazil and elsewhere, as relevant. The position is part of a substantial research project on 'Building Resilience in a Dynamic Global Economy: Complexity across scales in the Food-Water-Energy Nexus' involving an interdisciplinary team of engineers, modellers, political scientists, economists and lawyers, among others.
You will be based in C-EENRG, but expected to travel abroad in order to perform the duties necessary of the role. C-EENRG aims to foster research in the law and governance dimensions of environment-driven societal transformations. A major focus of the C-EENRG is the analysis of transitional policies and policy instruments designed to bring, facilitate or manage environmental transitions, such as the climate-driven transition from a carbon-intensive to a decarbonised energy matrix or the water/population-driven transformation of food production systems.
Essential criteria includes:
- Completed PhD in law or another relevant social sciences (e.g. public policy, social policy, political science, history) before the starting date of this position (1 April 2017).
- Knowledge of law and policy processes in Brazil.
- Ability to speak and write in both Brazilian Portuguese and English • Ability to work independently.
- An entrepreneurial and group-oriented attitude will also be important.
