Understanding the Water-Energy Nexus // Integrated Water and Power System Modeling
The United States and the European Union (EU) are seeking to accelerate the transition to low-carbon energy systems, including power generation from variable solar and wind technologies. Following the signing of a collaboration arrangement between the JRC and the US Department of Energy earlier this year, a workshop is being organised at the JRC's facilities in Ispra on 28-29 September 2016.

Following the signing of a collaboration arrangement between the JRC and the US Department of Energy earlier this year, a workshop is being organised at the JRC's facilities in Ispra on 28-29 September 2016.
During the workshop, European and US scientists from academia, government and industry will address the need to understand the “flexibility adequacy” of power generation, and the provision of flexibility reserves at a time in history where variable wind and solar are growing rapidly in use. In particular, it will be discussed how best to use integrated water and power system modelling to have future grid stability.
