Panel at the European Development Days 2016 // Ensuring policy coherence between interconnected Sustainable Development Goals

In the right place at the right time: How the water-energy-food nexus approach will contribute to the Agenda 2030

Logo european development days 2016
The need for policy integration and collaboration across sectors has long been identified in the discussions of the water-energy-food security (WEF) nexus. This is necessary to plan for trade-offs and synergies among the sectors at sub-national, national, regional and global levels. Participants will elaborate on how coherent implementation can be achieved when striving for the sectoral Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) indicators, including 2, 6, 7 in the WEF sectors, in addition to SDGs 11 to 15 that address environment, climate change and urban planning. To capture systemic interactions, specific attention will be given to SDG 17, which explicitly mentions the need to 'enhance policy coherence'. High-level government representatives from European countries will discuss how to achieve this goal of policy coherence.
