Nexus in Latin America and the Caribbean // Regional Political-Technical Dialogue on Water, Energy and Food Nexus
As part of the Nexus Regional Dialogue Programme, organised by the European Commission and the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), a regional dialogue will be held in Santiage, Chile. A complementary workshop will be held by GIZ.

Dialogue Agenda
The first day of the event will be devoted to the presentation of the Nexus approach:
- background information on the water, energy and food Nexus concept and its global configuration;
- the connection of the Nexus approach and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG);
- the features of the Nexus approach in the region and the main difficulties for its implementation;
- Nexus interrelations that are critical or priority for the region;
- national case studies;
- sector and inter sector perspectives; and
- Nexus issues in regional and international cooperation.
During the second day, debates will centre of a proposal of public policy guidelines for a better management of Nexus interrelations and an action plan in this respect.
Workshop
The Regional Dialogue will be complemented with a training workshop, organized by the GIZ, 16 and 17 March 2018, also in ECLAC headquarters in Santiago, Chile.
The workshop will rely on trainers from the Institute for Technology and Resources Management in the Tropics and Subtropics of the University of Applied Sciences of Köln.
The general objective of the course will be to develop capacities for the application of the Nexus approach in planning process in the region, specifically:
- understanding the Nexus approach and its implications of the planning processes;
- analyses of the planning challenges in terms of interscalarity, intersectoriality and intertemporality;
- European experiences in the application of the Nexus approach; and
- bottom-up planning approach and the descending Nexus perspective at the level of public policies.
Programs of the Regional Dialogue and the Training Workshop will be available on dates closer to their completion (February-March).
