9th ANQUE International Congress on Chemistry, Murcia, Spain // Workshop: The Water, Energy and Food Nexus: A Life Cycle Approach
The 9th International Congress of Chemistry of ANQUE serves as a meeting point for scientists, technologists and entrepreneurs in the face of new challenges in the field of food and beverages. A workshop on the 'Life Cycle Approach' explores its potential on understanding the intrinsic connections of the water, energy and food nexus and its influence on the alimentation sector.
One of the main challenges within the EU Horizon 2020 is food Security. The aim is to guarantee enough supply of safe, healthy and high quality foods and other bioproducts. Hence, the importance of a competitive and sustainable agri-food industry to achieve a healthy and safe diet. For this reason, the National Association of Chemists of Spain (ANQUE), together with the Association of Chemists of Murcia, organizes the 9th International Chemistry Congress of the ANQUE “Foods and Beverages”, to serve as a meeting point for scientists, technologists and entrepreneurs facing the new challenges in this field.

Workshop on "Water-Energy-Food Nexus: A Life Cycle Thinking Approach"

The food sector must undergo transformations to address successfully the complex challenges related to food security and the environmental sustainability of the food sector. The nexus term in the context of water, food and energy refers to these sectors being inextricably linked so that actions in one area commonly have impacts on the others, as well as on ecosystems. Evaluations of food, energy and water (FEW) linkages are rapidly emerging in contemporary nexus studies. The objective of this workshop is to demonstrate the potential of life cycle thinking (LCT) in understanding the complex and often “hidden” linkages between FEW systems. Currently available databases and software make LCT a key tool for integrated FEW nexus assessments. In this context, in this area, the following topics will be addressed:

Call for Submissions
This congress will constitute a forum for debate and exchange of information between companies, administration and public institutions, research centres and universities in which the latest scientific and technological advances applicable to the field of Food and Beverages will be presented. For both oral and poster communications, authors should send an abstract in English of one page extension, with the most relevant and innovative aspects of the work. The official languages of the Congress will be Spanish and English. A maximum of 2 communications per registration can be presented.
