"BONN PERSPECTIVES" workshop in Bonn
Adaptation to climate change? — According to experts, the question is not, if we need adaptation strategies, but how we can adapt. There is a broad consensus that, besides the ecological and geopolitical effects, climate change will also have a large impact on the private business sector worldwide, as climate change is at the heart of the Nexus: The food industry is already affected by changing weather conditions. But also energy, infrastructure and logistics companies will face problems, if e.g. the water level rises in seas and falls in rivers and reservoirs.
Coping successfully with the adverse effects of climate change requires an effort on the part of politicians and the private sector alike. This is where BONN PERSPECTIVES comes in: The workshop "Climate Change Adaptation — a Case for Business?" brings representatives from different sectors to the table. Decision makers from private enterprises, politics and research will carry out a thorough assessment of the opportunities and risks climate change bears for the private sector — and above all: They will develop specific measures in the field adaption to climate change.
BONN PERSPECTIVES
was initiated by the City of Bonn and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The project offers a number of dialogue and conference formats — one of which was the Bonn2011 Nexus Conference, the first milestone of the BONN PERSPECTIVES. The objective is to devise flexible and sustainable ways of solving problems. BONN PERSPECTIVES focuses on interlinkages between water, energy and food security and on the prerequisites for a green urban economy.
