Side Event at the World Water Week 2014 // The Water Food Energy Nexus: Insights into Resilient Development

This side event will use case studies of how governments around the world are (or perhaps aren't) taking account of resilience when making decisions about food, water or energy security and, more broadly, when deciding their development priorities.

Logo world water week
Drawing on work commissioned by WWF and SABMiller, and undertaken by Pegasys Consulting, the event will look at the resource endowments, plans, policies and institutional arrangements in 16 territories around the world. The event will share insights from this work which might help decision-makers think about development choices.

Time & Room

Wednesday 17:45-18:45 Room K22/23 The combined megatrends of population growth, economic development and climate change present profound risks to society, business and ecosystems. This is especially so for the linked challenges of ensuring food, water and energy security - the so-called Nexus. One way in which Nexus risks can be addressed is through the development and implementation of national development plans which are resilient to the pressures imposed by such megatrends. Much has been written about the Nexus, often from a theoretical or academic standpoint, or through sector-specific viewpoints. This side event will take a different approach: it will use case studies of how governments around the world are (or perhaps aren't) taking account of resilience when making decisions about food, water or energy security and, more broadly, when deciding their development priorities.
