PhD Studentship // Stakeholder involvement in policy evaluation in Institute for Agri-Food Research and Innovation (IAFRI)

Overview

The evaluation of public policy is particularly challenging in complex settings such as across the Energy-Environment-Food nexus. This social science studentship will consider how nexus policy evaluation is accessed, used and informed by external stakeholders and wider publics. It will build on previous research reflecting on the nature of expertise, open policy making and evidence-based policy to consider: whose expertise counts within policy evaluation; how is stakeholder involvement managed and what methodological approaches are adopted; to what extent does it enhance the quality of the policy evaluation undertaken; and what happens when stakeholders use evaluations to challenge government. Eligibility Criteria

Essential criteria:

• You must have, or expect to achieve, a first class or upper-second-class honours degree in a relevant social science subject or international equivalent and desirably a social science Masters.
• Experience of qualitative methods (e.g. interviews, mixed methods, case study method)
• English Language Requirements: Minimum IELTS score of 6.5 with at least 5.5 in each category
• Experience of qualitative methods (e.g. interviews, mixed methods, case study method)

Applications from both UK/EU and other non-EU international applicants will be considered; however, as this studentship only covers UK/EU fees, the difference in fees for non-EU international students will need to be met by the applicant. Annual fees are £4,540 per year for home/EU and £12,310 for International. So international students must provide payment for the difference per year in fees of £7,770.
