Zambia Water Forum

The 8^th Zambia Water Forum and Exhibition seeks to raise awareness on the importance of Sanitation and good hygiene practices. The objective of the Forum is to bring together various national and international experts to discuss the impact of sanitation on water security.

Sanitation remains a challenge to Sub-Saharan Africa and Zambia in particular. According to the Zambia National public health institute, the period October 2017-April 2018 Zambia recorded 5,905 cases and 98 deaths due to the Cholera Outbreak. Cholera remains endemic in more than 47 countries, with an estimated 40–80 million people in Africa living in cholera hotspots, and globally an estimated 2.9 million cases every year and up to 95,000 deaths (WHO, 2018). Drinking unsafe water impairs health through diseases such as Cholera and untreated excreta contaminate groundwater and surface waters used for drinking-water, irrigation, bathing and household purposes thereby threatening the security of water resources.

Call for papers

The ZAWAFE Steering committee now calls for papers in line with the above mentioned theme and the sub-themes below:

Sub-Themes:

1. Climate Change and Water Security;
2. Waste management practices and their implications on water security;
3. Implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (particularly SDG 6) in Sub-Saharan Africa.;
4. Harmonization of policies and legal instruments on water and sanitation;
5. Counting the cost of Cholera and Water Borne Diseases; and
6. Innovations and Technology for Water and Sanitation.

Interested presenters should submit their abstracts to zambiawaterforum@gmail.com by 1st March, 2019 with the following details:

1. A short biography ( 100 words)
2. Title or theme of proposed abstract
3. Abstract length: 250 words
4. Font type and size: Times Roman 12
5. Spacing: 1.5
6. An active mobile number

Successful presenters will be notified by 26th April, 2019 upon which they will be required to submit the full papers in MS WORD.
