Networking // Food-Water-Energy Nexus in Urban Areas

With Ewa Bloch, Urban Living Programme Lead at Innovate UK. The evening will be dedicated to discussing Innovate’s urban living sector priorities and their ongoing support for solutions to the economic, societal and environmental challenges faced by cities. Ewa will also discuss the upcoming international cooperation opportunities for projects on The Sustainable Urban Global Initiative (SUGI) food-water-energy nexus in urban areas.

For the next 5 years Innovate UK will lead a consortium of 23 countries (29 funders) to launch a joint call for these projects and the work will be implemented in close cooperation with the Future Cities Catapult, who will coordinate the consortium work on behalf of Innovate UK. The countries involved in the consortium include UK (the three UK funders involved are Innovate UK, ESRC and AHRC), Austria, Netherlands, Germany, France, Norway, Belgium, Latvia, Slovenia, Turkey, Poland, Romania, Sweden, Cyprus, United States, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Japan, Qatar, Taiwan, Australia and South Africa. The call for projects will open in December 2016 and close in the first quarter of 2017 (Stage 1 submissions). Projects will be required to include two European and a min one non-European partner. Ewa Bloch is an Urban Living Programme Lead at Innovate UK and her work is mainly concerned with European and international cooperation opportunities. She is also the UK Representative to the Horizon 2020 Programme and the National Contact Point for European research and innovation funding for cities, climate and environmental projects. Prior to that she worked as a National Contact Point for European funding for eco-innovation and industrial biotechnology. She works closely with UK businesses, academia, cities and the Catapult network to maximise innovation and market opportunities and is passionate about helping businesses grow and innovate.
