Conference Workshop at the IWW 2013 in Amsterdam // Cities of the Future: Exploring Urban Solutions for the Water-Energy-Food Nexus

There are many examples from the urban water sector on how water, energy and food security can be achieved through an integrated approach. The workshop shares experiences from urban areas where water infrastructure and technology along with effective institutions, financing and incentives are being implemented to provide water for multiple uses. Conveners: International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and IWA Speakers and panelists: -Introduction — Damian Crilly, IWA (10 mins) -Amsterdam as A Sustainable European Metropolis: Integration of Water, Energy And Material Flows — Jan Peter van der Hoek, Waternet (15 mins) Panel discussion: -Frans van de Ven, Deltares -Trevor Bishop, Environment Agency -Piet Dircke, ARCADIS -Brian Mergelas, Water Ontario -Jan Peter van der Hoek, Waternet Each panelist will give a 3-5 minute overview of ideas and experiences around securing water across the water-energy-food nexus in cities (tweet of the day). (25 mins) -Workshop participants will provide input on opportunities and barriers where water infrastructure and technology along with effective institutions, financing and incentive can provide water across sectors in an urban context (20 mins) -Concluding reactions from the panel and messages to take home (10 minutes)
