World Café: Food-Energy-Water Nexus (Invited Talks)

The affordable production, security, and safety of Food, Energy, and Water resources (the FEW Nexus) can no longer be addressed in isolation. The complicated world structure and global connections result in a complex system problem with the search to balance local needs and complex global connections. New frameworks, methodologies, and tools that account for diverse stakeholders are needed to manage the Nexus. Chemical engineers bring important understanding, skills, and gifts to address this problem. This plenary session leads a topical conference on the Nexus and builds on the AIChE / IChemE collaboration on the Nexus. The topical conference provides a forum for exchanging research, case studies, and ideas for addressing the Nexus.

The Food-Energy-Water Nexus

Fundamentals of Food, Energy, and Water Systems

Providing food, energy, and water for the growing and economically-developing human population is a pressing challenge. This is a challenge which chemical engineers are uniquely positioned to address. This session accepts theoretical, modeling, or experimental papers on the fundamentals of food, water and energy systems, and how the systems are integrated and coupled to each other, creating a "nexus."

How do we think differently about complex interconnected system challenges? What ar the metrics that inform and guide decisions? The forum provides opportunities to share experiences from on-going Nexus projects.
