African Cities // A Strategic Conversation on Water-Energy-Food Nexus, Port Elizabeth/South Africa

The South African Cities Network (SACN) invites members of the media to the strategic conversation on water-energy-food nexus.

The water energy food nexus recognizes that the provision and consumption of food, energy and water are interlinked. Addressing the challenges facing these three important aspects in isolation is short-sighted and often counter-productive. Food, water and energy are central to our existence and the economy. The connection and interaction between water, agriculture, the environment, and energy are becoming more important to understand and respond to. In order to secure these resources (water, energy and food), for the provision of basic needs and improved quality of life, the need for more conscious stewardship as well as overall reduction in use of resources has become both more obvious and urgent. In addition, blockages that prevent the use of renewable resources should be consciously removed and unsustainable technologies, practices and business-as-usual solutions challenged.
