In this interview, Mr. Hales criticises the gap between existing interrelations in the Water, Energy and Food security Nexus and the decision structures in companies and governments, which are usually based on isolated and sectoral decision making processes. As an example he mentions the buying up of water rights by US energy companies. Mr. Hales touches on his personal motivation for supporting the Bonn2011 Nexus Conference, which is not only in the professional context as a scientist, but also as a grandfather wanting to leave his grandchildren a better world.
