Webinar // The water–energy–food–ecosystems nexus and One Health: Opportunities for joint action?

Aligned with World Health Day, this CGIAR Initiative on NEXUS Gains webinar will discuss two case studies where these systems overlap. The first case study links built surface water storage systems – a mainstay of the WEFE nexus – with human health, while the second assesses the WEFE nexus of the rice–fisheries system. This will be followed by a discussion of the challenges and opportunities of systems approaches to achieve real impact.

The water–energy–food–ecosystems nexus and One Health: Opportunities for joint action?

Thursday April 11, 2024 | 14:00–15:00 UTC / 15:00–16:00 CET / 18:30–19:30 IST

One Health advocates that human, environmental, and animal health are closely interlinked and that interventions should actively consider these interlinkages to achieve larger impacts. Similarly, the water–energy–food–ecosystems (WEFE) nexus promotes systems thinking to reduce the costs of trade-offs and achieve synergies. Of course, all WEFE nexus interventions have human health implications, and many one health interventions have potential impacts across the WEFE nexus. However, to date, research and interventions as part of these two systemic approaches have largely operated separately.
