Nexus Outlook Report // A Collection of Nexus Case Studies from Latin America, Africa and Asia
TH Köln - University of Applied Sciences has issued a report illustratively highlighting resource use challenges across many case studies. The report entails a range of easily digestible small nexus assessments, in-depth focus articles and country-level infographics. The report builds on contributions from local partners in nexus-relevant projects around the world. Alongside policy relevant indicators and timelines, the Nexus Outlook report aims at introducing many international case studies and reproducible assessments on the nexus as materials for students and learners.
The report entitled "Nexus Outlook: Assessing Resource Use Challenges in the Water, Energy and Food Nexus" includes case studies from the Vu Gia Thu Bon River Basin in Vietnam , the Blue Nile basin, the Imperial River Basin in Chile, the Magdalena River Bain in Colombia, the Tempsique-Bebedero catchment in Costa-Rica and the Machángara river basin in Ecuador. It also contains articles on the national nexus view in Chile as a whole and the issue of hydropower and climate change in Brazil.
The overarching theme of the report is the use of nexus assessments as a way of examining resource sustainability in a basin and identify relevant challenges to be later addressed by policies. Such assessments can vary in issues, level of details, precision and messages. They are nonetheless all valuable and highly demanded to help operationalize the normative vision of living and growing sustainably across different sectors and considering different demands.
The Nexus Outlook report is based on input from various research and higher education activities supported recently the Nexus Research Focus of the TH Köln – University of Applied Sciences under the leadership of the Institute for Technology in the Tropics (ITT).
