Vacancy // PostDoc Researcher in Innovation, Networking and Learning in the Water Industry at Trinity College Dublin

Trinity Business School, Trinity College Dublin invites applications for a Researcher, part-funded under the ERDF INTERREG Ireland-Wales programme 2014-2020. In this multi-disciplinary research, the Business School is collaborating with the School of Engineering at Trinity College Dublin, and Bangor University Wales. The project is entitled Distributing our Water Resources: Utilising Integrated, Smart & low-Carbon Energy (Dŵr Uisce). The broad aim of the Dŵr Uisce project is to improve the long-term sustainability of water supply, treatment and end-use in Ireland and Wales through:
  • Developing and demonstrating a number of new innovative technology platforms
  • Developing policy and best practice guidelines to facilitate the implementation of integrated low-carbon and smart energy solutions for the water sector
  • Undertaking economic and environmental impact assessments
This appointment involves hands-on engagement with industry and with the other researchers within the project. A key part of the project is the development of a smart specialisation cluster of organisations in the water sector and in region. The cluster aims to stimulate innovation through collaboration, demonstration and knowledge exchange leading to economic growth in the area of water and energy management. In addition, the cluster will facilitate the raising of public awareness of the project and its findings. Towards this end, the cluster is to emerge through active engagement by collaborating with enterprises in the development and assessment of energy recovery systems for the water industry and, also, the uptake of the project findings. The successful candidate will facilitate:
  • The development and growth of a Water-Energy smart specialisation cluster through engaging with industry and researchers in relation to technology, processes and services.
  • Learning by industry members with and from each other through collaborative action built around technology demonstration sites.
  • Maintaining a vibrant online presence at https://www.dwr-uisce.eu/ to enable knowledge transfer among cluster members and to raise awareness of the water-energy challenge.
  • The coordination of an annual cross-border water-energy conference to showcase the project findings and to further develop the cluster.
  • Delivery of project reports, deliverables and other administrative duties. These deliverables include the presentation and publication of co-authored conference papers and journal articles.
The successful candidate will join a large multidisciplinary and cross-border research team undertaking a €3.3 million EU project. The team employs a number of methodologies including action research and action learning in order to contribute to practice and literature. Applicants for appointment at postdoctoral researcher level must hold a PhD in a business, management, engineering management or environmental management. Applicants for appointment at research assistant level should hold a master’s degree in business, management, engineering management or environmental management. All applicants must provide evidence of the following:
  • A research record relating to management of innovation, operations improvement or organisational learning that includes evidence of recent publications
  • Engagement with business and management practice related to innovation, operations improvement or organisational learning
  • The ability to engage as a member of a multi-disciplinary research team
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, and an ability to present and communicate ideas and concepts clearly in an educational and industry context
Applicants are asked to send a cover letter, CV and the names of two referees, at least one of whom should be an academic, to the address below. The deadline has been extended to 15 Dec 2017. The appointment may commence in January 2017 or at the earliest date thereafter. Salary €37,750 to €42,394. The term of the contract may extend to August 31 2021.
