Contest // PRIMA WEFE NEXUS Award
The Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area (PRIMA) has released a call for applicants for the WEFE NEXUS award. This award recognizes research teams and practitioners that have devised and demonstrated the successful implementation on the ground of combined management practices of water, energy, food and ecosystem resources in the Mediterranean, at local, sub-Regional and or regional level.
Deadline for submission extended to: 15 July 2021
Overview
This prize is funded by PRIMA, the Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area with Horizon 2020 funds.
It recognizes “research teams and practitioners” that have devised and demonstrated the successful implementation on the ground of combined management practices of water, energy, food and ecosystem resources in the Mediterranean, at local, sub-Regional and or regional level.
The prize will contribute to the ongoing implementation of the UfM Water Policy actions, together with the implementation of the Water Framework Directive, toward more consistent cooperation between the EU and the southern and eastern Mediterranean countries (according to the European Neighbourhood Policy-ENP), and the delivery to the Decade of Action of the UN Agenda 2030.
The contest will reward the first two winners with EUR 10 000 each, that will create role models for the adoption and replication of WEFE integrated approach in the Mediterranean Region.
Eligibility and Selection
The contestants for the PRIMA prizes should be at least one legal entity established in a PRIMA Participant State (check out at: https://prima-med.org/about-us/participating-states/)
The demonstrated practices must be implemented in the Mediterranean Region.
A high-level jury of independent experts will evaluate the proposals by looking at the following criteria:
- From results to societal benefits –demonstrate the wider socio-economic benefits of their proposed practices going beyond a fragmented system of sectors and players;
- Uptake of solutions – demonstrate that they have directly exploited their proposed solutions or have played an active role in the uptake of the results by third parties, in particular influencing policy change;
- Replicability of solutions- demonstrate the replication and upscaling potential of the proposed Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems Nexus solutions.
The contest is open to application until 15 July 2021 (17:00 CET).
The first two winners will be announced during the 2021 WEFE Nexus Science Advances Conference jointly organised by the Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area, the Joint Research Centre and the Directorate General Research and Innovation of the European Commission, the UfM-Union for the Mediterranean, and the Cyprus Institute.
The Conference will be held Online from Nicosia (Cyprus), 27 – 29 September 2021 (tbc)
