The successful candidate is expected to actively engage in an international project on the sustainable innovation and governance in the Mediterranean area for the Water Ecosystems Food (WEF) Nexus funded under the EU’s H2020 program. The core aspects include: (i) assessing the economic performance of farmers as the impact of adopting water-saving irrigation technologies, (ii) integrated socio-economic and ecological modelling for the evaluation of the WEF Nexus schemes, (iii) evaluating the cost-effectiveness of adaptation strategies under climatic variability, and (iv) identification of socio-economic considerations and environmental activities using a Delphi study .
The applicant should possess:
- an excellent university degree in economics, applied economics (e.g. agricultural economics, natural re-source economics, environmental economics, environmental management, water economics), or related disciplines;
- strong analytical and methodological skills with a focus on quantitative data analysis (e.g. econometrics, statistics) as well as qualitative approaches (e.g. in-depth interviewing, survey design, stakeholder analysis);
- experience in computational methods linking economic models with biophysical and hydrological models and spatial analysis;
- knowledge of water economics policy and theories for the provision of Nexus frameworks;
- excellent communication skills and an interest in working with interdisciplinary researchers;
- high motivation and ability to work independently with a strong team orientation;
- interest in teaching;
- excellent spoken and written English.
