Webinar // Dŵr Uisce Sustainability Webinar Series 2021: Exploring Micro-Hydropower
In the Dŵr Uisce Sustainability Webinar Series 2021, findings from the Dŵr Uisce project demonstrate how research-based practical solutions can improve the energy efficiency in the water sector. In the first webinar focused on micro-hydropower, low-cost and modular hydro turbines are presented along with their opportunities, design and results from pilot installations.
Tuesday February 24, 12.00-13.00 CET
Webinar Series Overview
In this series, we present findings from the Dŵr Uisce project demonstrating how research-based practical solutions can improve the energy efficiency in the water sector. The series targets both industry professionals and the general public.
Dŵr Uisce project researchers will lead participants through the theory, methodologies and practical solutions to recover energy and heat while improving efficiency.
The webinars run from February to April 2021 and are free to attend.
Delivered online, they will include demonstrations of tools and live Q&A sessions.
EXPLORING MICRO- HYDROPOWER
24 February 2021 11 am- 12noon GMT
Low-cost and modular hydro turbines: opportunity, design and results from pilot installations.
Speaker: Dr Daniele Novara, Dept. of Civil, Structural & Environmental Engineering, Trinity College Dublin, Ireland
Host: Prof Aonghus Mc Nabola, Dept. of Civil, Structural & Environmental Engineering, Trinity College Dublin, Ireland
Are you involved in the hydro-power sector and wonder how to reduce the equipment cost of a new or a refurbished scheme? Are you working for or with a water-intensive industry (e.g. mining, food & beverage, pharmaceutical, tech, manufacturing) and want to explore opportunities to recover electricity from the existing pipelines? Are you a landowner or a community willing to develop a small hydro-power scheme (<100 kW) on your property?
Join the Webinar to learn more about the pump-as-turbine technology and its applications.
Content: Since 2011 the research team Trinity College Dublin has been working on a novel type of low-cost and modular water turbine, consisting of using regular water pumps in reverse as turbines.
The webinar will introduce the technology and provide an overview of the locations where it could be beneficial. Also, the results from the various installed pilot plants operating since 2019 will be presented.
Audience: Hydropower consultants, landowners
Do participants need prior knowledge of the topic? No
What participants will learn during the webinar: To identify the opportunities for installing small water turbines in their water networks/properties
