About Food-Energy-Water (FEWs) Lab

Engineering: FEWs Nexus
We are investigating the complexity within environmental management and competing interests across the food-energy-water nexus. We want to better understand and characterize the intertwined dynamics of humans, water, climate, and ecosystems. This work searches for patterns in data and models synthesize knowledge across scales. This information can help inform related policy and solve water resource and engineering problems.

Job Description and Position Requirements:

Applications are sought for a Postdoctoral Scholar position in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering to work on issues relating to the water-food-energy nexus with Assistant Professor Caitlin Grady (www.fewslab.org).

Successful candidates will have:

  • The ability to work independently and collaborate on a team with diverse backgrounds and expertise
  • Strong analytical skills as well as experience in either spatial analysis using GIS or network modeling with python/R
  • Evidence demonstrating the capacity to write and publish academic works
  • Additional expertise or interest in the following areas is welcome (but not required)
    • Environmental justice
    • Policy implications of scientific research
    • Conducting ethical-epistemic analyses
    • Risk and resilience modeling within infrastructure systems
    • Social research methods including surveys, interviews, and focus groups
    • Mentoring undergraduate or graduate students
    • Teaching in courses related to the food-energy-water nexus
  • Creative, interdisciplinary thinkers interested in research in this area are encouraged to apply
  • Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Civil or Environmental Engineering, Geography, Industrial Engineering, or another field related to the water-food-energy nexus prior to the start date of this appointment

Job Duties:

  • Perform modeling or field work depending on expertise
  • Interact daily with graduate and undergraduate students
  • Write papers and participate in research projects
  • Learn about lab management through assisting Dr. Grady with management tasks
  • Build her/his/their own expertise
  • Prepare for their/her/his future career

This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with a possibility of renewal.
