About the Event

Over the past few years, traditionally water-rich countries, such as the Netherlands and Belgium, have started experiencing freshwater scarcity as a result of prolonged drought. This has urged water users such as water utilities to reflect on their water supply strategy. As part of this reflection, a dialogue among all relevant stakeholders across different sectors (e.g., urban water and agriculture) on water availability and allocation is important to understand sector-specific problems and needs, and consequently to identify opportunities for coordinated water management among them.

The Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystem (WEFE) nexus approach investigates the bio-physical, socio-economic and policy interlinkages across nexus sectors and identifies potential synergies and trade-offs for combined coordinated actions. Thinking about water in nexus terms, could help water utilities and other water organizations to better understand interlinkages, problems and needs, and therefore better prepare to negotiate solutions with other sectors’ stakeholders.

By using examples from international projects, this webinar will help the audience improve the understanding of how nexus thinking can help the water sector engage with stakeholders across the nexus sectors to build synergies and manage trade-offs related to water use.

The webinar will be chaired by Stefania Munaretto (KWR).
