Background of the project
Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia are working on a joint strategic pilot project to promote sustainable development in the Mekong sub-basin of the Sekong, Sesan and Srepok tributaries (3S basin). The Mekong River Commission (MRC) supports its member states in jointly managing the transboundary water resources in the Lower Mekong River Basin. The challenges for the catchment area and its ecosystems are caused by the construction of hydroelectric power plants, the use of resources by the population and the consequences of climate change with floods and droughts. The aim of the measure is to prepare further project activities for sustainable water resource management in cooperation with the MRC, which will then be implemented in the 3S catchment area.
