The eighth meeting of the Task Force on Water Food Energy Ecosystems Nexus marks ten years of work on the theme of cross-sectoral cooperation under the Water Convention. The meeting will be an occasion to take stock of the work done so far, to discuss the future activities that are part of the programme of work for 2022-2024 of the Water Convention, and to discuss the future of the Task Force in the next programme of work 2025-2027.
The meeting is open to experts representing governmental authorities, the private sector, non-governmental and international organizations as well as other interested stakeholders.
THE MEETING WILL FOCUS ON:
- Taking stock of the 10 years of work on water-food-energy-ecosystems nexus under the Water Convention;
- Financing cross-sectoral solutions: multi-benefit and multi-source investments;
- Discussing the role of transboundary water cooperation for the energy transition;
- Mainstreaming nexus in global climate and environmental processes of cooperation;
- Water allocation in transboundary contexts, with new examples;
- Discussing the future of the Task Force.
The eighth meeting of the Task Force will start at 10.00 a.m. on Thursday, 7 December 2023 and will end at 16.00 p.m. on Friday, 8 December 2023. It will be held in a hybrid manner in the Palais des Nations, Geneva.
The Task Force meeting will be preceded by the Global Workshop on Funding and Financing Transboundary Cooperation, which will be held on 5-6 December 2023. The working languages will be English, French, Russian, and Spanish.

FINANCIAL SUPPORT AND VISA:
Eligible participants from countries with economies in transition and developing countries may apply for financial support to facilitate their participation in the meeting using the financial support request form attached to the invitation email. Requests for financial support should be submitted to the UNECE secretariat (water.convention@un.org) as soon as possible, but not later than 24 October 2023. No application will be accepted after this deadline. Only limited funding is available; participants will be notified by 2 November 2023 whether their application has been accepted or not.
Participants requiring entry visas should inform the UNECE secretariat as soon as possible. Since Switzerland is part of the Schengen Zone, obtaining a visa might take up to 5 weeks. Participants needing a visa are therefore requested to submit their application as soon as possible and initiate visa procedures at least four weeks before the meeting.
AT THE PALAIS:
On their way to the meeting, participants should obtain an identification badge at the Pass and Identification Unit of the United Nations Office at Geneva Security and Safety Section located at the Pregny Gate, in front of International Committee of the Red Cross. Please allow at least one hour time for this.
