Conference

Abstract submission for the conference “Exploring Geographic Connections”, organised by the Australian National University and taking place in Canberra, 1-3 July 2015, is now open. The event, organised by the Institute of Australian Geographers at the Australian National University (ANU), focuses on exploring and strengthening the links between geography and the diverse domains that geographers apply themselves. Two planned sessions deal explicitly with the nexus.

Conference cancelled

On 18 Feb 2015, the hosts of the event, The Water Institute at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and collaborators, announced that this conference, one of the leading nexus events of the year, has been cancelled due to very low registration.

New Publication

The water-energy-food nexus is the “new kid on the block” in development thinking since 2008, and is a key concept within the UN post-2015 development agenda. The current framing of the nexus, however, needs to refocus onto the big issues of inequality and local access rights to resources according to a Special Issue of Water Alternatives, published this week.

Nexus Research

As a part of the 2016 budget, NSF plans to invest heavily in research on the Nexus of Food, Energy and Water Systems (INFEWS). This is an NSF-wide investment that aims to understand, design, and model the interconnected food, energy, and water system through an interdisciplinary research effort that incorporates all areas of science and engineering and addresses the natural, social, and human-built factors involved.
