Bonn2011 Nexus Process
German Advisory Group (DBK)
The development of a global strategy and a common agenda on sustainable water, energy and food security is a central aspect of Germany’s contribution to the upcoming World Summit on Sustainable Development, scheduled for 2012 in Rio de Janeiro. The German Federal Government has opted for a participatory approach: Two bodies of experts, along with representatives from the politics, business, science and civil society, are engaged in a consultation process known as the Bonn2011 Nexus Process.
The German Advisory Group consists of fifteen experts representing different stakeholders from the water, energy and food sectors. It aims to ensure that the expertise available in Germany flows into the preparatory process.
Together with the International Steering Committee, the German Advisory Group provided valuable contributions, particularly in establishing the evidence base for the Water, Energy and Food Security Nexus, in identifying important topics to discuss, and in drafting the Bonn2011 Nexus Conference Recommendations. Both committees met three times during the run-up to the conference and helped to establish a common agenda for longterm Water, Energy and Food Security.
